If you like LinkedIn Queens, try Starlit
Queens on LinkedIn is a Star Battle, a classic logic puzzle that was around long before the app. Starlit is our daily Star Battle: the same rules, our own boards, and a new one every day. You don't need an account.
What is the same
- One in every row, column and color. Queens places crowns, Starlit places stars. The rule is the same.
- No two touch, not even corner to corner.
- Tap once to rule a tile out, twice to place a star. If your thumbs know Queens, they know Starlit.
- One answer, no guessing. Every board can be solved by logic alone.
What is different
- A week that gets harder. The board grows a little through the week, with the toughest ones at the weekend.
- More than one a day. Every past daily stays in the archive, and 300 practice puzzles from 6×6 to 9×9 don't touch your streak.
- Hints that explain. Hint points at the next tile you can prove and tells you why, so you learn the move instead of just getting the tile.
- No account. Your streak and times stay in this browser, and nine other daily puzzles are one tap away.
Tips for Queens players
Start with the smallest color
A color of one or two tiles leaves its star almost no room. Place it, then rule out its row, its column, its color and the eight tiles around it.
Let the game place the dots
Turn on Auto rule-out in Settings. Every star you place then puts a faint dot on the tiles it blocks, which saves a lot of tapping on bigger boards.
Find colors that sit in one row
When every free tile of a color is in one row, that row's star belongs to the color, so the rest of the row is empty. It works for columns too, and weekend boards usually need it.
The Starlit guide has all five techniques, with the two that crack the hardest boards.
Questions
Is Starlit made by LinkedIn?
No. LogicSnack is a small independent studio, and Starlit has no connection to LinkedIn. Our boards come from our own generator, and our own solver checks each one before it goes live.
Are Queens and Star Battle the same puzzle?
Yes. Queens uses the rules of a one-star Star Battle: one mark in every row, column and region, and no two marks touching. Star Battle also has a harder two-star form, with two stars in every line and region. Starlit uses the one-star rules, like Queens.
Can I play more than one Starlit puzzle a day?
Yes. Every past daily Starlit stays in the archive, and the game page has 300 practice puzzles in five sizes. Practice puzzles don't touch your streak.
Is Starlit free?
Yes. You play in the browser on a phone or a computer. There's no app to install and no account to make.
